Laura Owens work reminds me of a childhood innocence that we all once had that has now been corrupted by adult thoughts and problems. Her work is an exploration in to the human psyche and the numerous conflicting thoughts we have on a daily basis. She transforms something that was once so complex into simple pieces of art. She uses vivid, almost fluorescent colours to create the biggest impact, without them the piece would fall apart and be nothing but a boring look on childhood. She uses multiple methods of her creating her art from digital techniques to college, her experimentation of materials is another way that she shows how she understands the complexity of the human mind. She has built such a large collection of art that it is hard to find one singular piece that can show her abilities. For example 'Untitled' 2011 (Flashe on paper, Triptch; each sheet 12 x 9 inches), shows how she use the simplistic of techniques make beautifully composed pieces of abstract art. The limited colour scheme paired with the unusual shapes is a wonderfully eye-catching piece as it shows how we as humans can transform the smallest of ideas into completely obscure thoughts.

'Untitled' 2015 (Oil, Flashe, and screenprinting ink on Gampi Torinko paper, mounted on mat board, 30 x 22 inches Framed Dimensions: 31.25 x 23.25 inches) takes another very basic idea and then changes it in a way that makes it feel very dream like. The strange colours of pink and blue are not usually seen on a cat but somehow we make that connection with our brains and we can understand where her ideas are coming from. We have experienced a world where what we know has been manipulated in a way that becomes completely impossible in the real world.
