Matthias Van Arkel

Strip Painting by Matthias Van Arkel is a painting but also a scuplture. Van Arkel's unique working method allows him to create a painting like structure by using strips of silicone and placing them carefully together. This unusual practice is something very new to me, something that I would have never have considered would create such delicate works of art. The act of binding objects and materials together is something I have now tried in my own work. It has taken me out of my comfort zone completely. The confidence displayed in his work is something I want to replicate.
