Jackson pollock is a well-known artist working in the abstract expressionist movement of art. His unique way of creating his pieces of work gained him world wide fame in the art community. He uses a style of drip painting to make unconventional pieces of artwork that are a display of expression and movement. Pollock's works include 'lavender mist', 'Full Fathom Five', and 'Shimmering substance'. Although his paintings at a glance can look similar, they are in fact all different. Due to his specialised techniques every piece of his work is original and cannot be replicated, meaning they are all one of a kind. Pollock likes to vary his range of colours that he will us in each piece depending on his mood and the atmosphere that he wants the piece to convey. If we look at 'autumn rhythm', he focuses on only using neutral colours like black, grey, beige, and white. These colours stand out against the pale yellowy/brown background that he uses. By using these colours, he is able to get a sense of depth by contrasting the white and black together. When I look at this piece I can see a conflict of emotion as he uses powerful striking motions to create straight lines, then he uses a twisting technique to make curves. The straight lines would suggest anger but then I view the curves as a feeling of happiness. This leads me to believe that this piece was created over a large period time compared to doing it all in one session.
