Hodgkin's work is an excellent view of human expression. His work is a captivatig and mystical. He plays with colour in such a joyful way. The brushstrokes leave a piece of his emotion in each of the piece. his passionate struggle between beauty and expression is vital for me to see as a young artist. My favourite pieces from his vast collections of artwork are 'It Cant Be True' and 'Conversation'.

It Can’t Be True
1987 - 1990
28 x 30 1/4", 71 x 76.5cm
Oil on wood
I feel like I am staring in to a room in Hodgkin's mind. The diagonal lines feel like im being hypnotised and I cant take my eyes away. The colours remind me of Halloween or autumn.

Conversation
1962 - 1967
42 3/4 x 42 3/4", 109 x 109cm
Oil on canvas
This piece reminds me of the ocean. The peaceful calm of the waves lapping against the shore. The blue contrasts beautifully with the orange.
