This semester I am driven by my determination and my own will power. Despite what may be thrown at me, I will not stop doing what I love. I am also driven by my innate need to create. This is something that I have no control over and something that nobody can stop. I am interested this semester in exploring abstract art more, investigating what makes abstract art, and the different genres/movements within abstract art. Furthermore, I am interested in the emotional representations of colours and mark making techniques.

This semester I intend to use a wider variety of art materials and tools. I am hoping to explore scale by using larger rolls of paper and canvas, I also hope to use unconventional materials too. I think if I am exploring a more abstract theme, that I should be using materials that can support heavy use of paint. This may include purpose made acrylic paper, thick tightly woven canvas, and wooden boards. In my art I intend to explore how simple materials can be altered to change their appearance and their ability to grip the surface. specifically, I would like to explore how different media, such as flow retarder, can be used to alter the properties of acrylic paint.

I don't really have a measurement for success. I think once I am happy with painting then I can send it out into the world. I will be happy with my work once I have explored as many avenues as possible within the time limit set by the university. My success will not be built on others understanding, liking, or acknowledging my art. I suppose I will find myself and my art successful once I believes is pleasing to the eye, can invoke a feeling, and stand alone in an empty room without any need for explanation or context.
